Hear The Ring Bosingak Bell
In Korea, the tradition of ringing the landmark bell marks the end of a year and simultaneously the beginning of a new one. The Bosingak Bell, located near Jonggak Station (Line 1), is the landmark bell of Seoul. Every year, 16 people including the mayor of Seoul ring the bell 33 times at midnight between December 31 and January 1. This has become one of the most popular traditions in Korea since Joseon Dynasty where the bell was rung every day to inform the start and end of the day. Nowadays, hundreds of thousands of Koreans head down to Bosingak Bell Pavilion on December 31 to bid farewell to the end of the year and welcome the start of a new one.
Fireworks at New Heights
To mark the first day of 2020, South Korean conglomerate Lotte will hold a countdown and fireworks event at the 123-story Lotte World Tower, which just so happens to be the fifth tallest building in the world. The fireworks will last for 555 seconds to represent the 555 meters that make up the skyscraper. The extravaganza is expected to attract approximately 100,000 viewers and will employ 1,500 guards and voluntary workers to maintain safety. The show will begin at 8:30 pm on December 31, but it's recommended that you arrive early for a good view.
New Years Eve at Everland
The countdown festival, which runs for 35 minutes from 11:35 p.m., will feature a party-concept special gala show and a spectacular fireworks display to celebrate the New Year. First of all, the special gala show features the best-loved performances of Everland, including shooting waterfun and Happy Halloween parties. Customers dance and sing with performers and heighten the atmosphere of an exciting end-of-year party, with the characters of Everland pre-announced dance moves and the stage of the performance being set right in front of the audience.
